The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), the UK’s advertising regulator, has brought together a collection of online resources on advertising guidelines for small businesses into a single site. The ASA’s online hub offers information on a number of topics, and the relevant regulations that your business needs to follow – from running a promotional campaign, to posting on your social media channels, and creating website content.

Who do the UK ad rules apply to?

The UK advertising rules (known as the ‘CAP Code’ and ‘BCAP Code’), apply to businesses based in the UK and everyone who markets or advertises their business in ‘UK media’, from a sole trader right through to a global conglomerate.

The rules help ensure consumers are treated fairly, and that businesses benefit from a level playing field.
